NEWS & EVENTS
Here is some of the wonderful coverage we've been getting:
New wineries are opening all over VA this summer. One of these is Hume Vineyards. They’re already active on facebook and have reached out to bloggers to get the word out about their opening.

The Baldis have a tightly focused vision for succeeding. “We want to be a boutique-styled winery producing small lots of quality wine that we only sell in our tasting room and at selected high-end wine shops and restaurants.
Hume Vineyards opens, features “bigger” wines
Though they are somewhat obliged to reach 5,000-cases-ayear, which, Stephane Baldi said this week, is generally accepted as a Virginia winery’s sustainability benchmark, Hume Vineyards will more closely resemble a California model in its approach.
“Our goal is a little different than other Virginia wineries,” he said. “Our inspiration is the very small boutique wineries on the West Coast. They do very small lots, anywhere from 50 to 125 cases of the wines they do, which is what we are trying to do here.”
The goal, he said, is to grow about half the grapes on the Hume property and buy the remainder so that the couple can do different blends every year.
Wine Dogs Discover There’s No Place Like Hume
Their website humbly suggests “If you have time, please stop by and say hello.” On July 10, Munchkin and Pomeroy took them up on their invitation, landing four-square at the winery’s grand opening celebration.
Hume Vineyards’ Debut
The Virginia wine industry seems to expand with every year, and now we can add Hume Vineyards to the list of newbies. Paul and I were invited by owner and winemaker Stephane Baldi and his wife, Andrea to visit their tasting room. We accepted the offer and visited Hume Vineyards on July 4. The grand opening is Saturday, July 10th.
Hume – Virginia’s Newest Winery
In the spirit of totally accuracy, I’m not sure if Hume Vineyards is technically Virginia’s newest winery – it’s possible another winery has completed requisite paper work and opened, but close enough.
I Heard it Through the Grapevine
After three years of loving labor, Hume Vineyards is celebrating its grand opening this
Saturday, July 10, noon-6pm. All are invited to be among the first to taste their freshly
uncorked 2009 Vidal Blanc (a great summer option), 2009 Chambourcin (the vineyard’s
champion grape), 2008 Detour and 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon. (The vineyard’s
description says it best for the cab sauv: “Loaded with roasted coffee, leather, vanilla
bean, and bacon…” Wait – did someone say bacon? Brilliant.)
